Beginning with credentials issued July 1, 2002, the NBRC’s Continuing Competency Program (CCP) was put in place to assure the public and others that individuals credentialed by NBRC continue to demonstrate a level of excellence in professional knowledge, skills and abilities as respiratory therapists and pulmonary function technologists. The purpose behind CCP is to establish standards by which continued competency of credentialed practitioner working on defined areas of respiratory care, including assessment, may be determined. The CCP was designed to enhance and contribute to the continued competence of credentialed respiratory therapists and pulmonary function technologists, as well as demonstrate concern for patient safety. Most individuals required to participate in the program have successfully renewed their national credentials issued by the NBRC by providing evidence that they continue to meet standards of practice.

Sleep Studies

The Institute for Continuing Education has been granted 2016 approval for all 52 of our sleep oriented courses by The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and its Continuing Education Sleep Technology Education (CSTE) Program.

NBRC

Our sleep-oriented courses are listed below. Each course has been approved for 3 CSTEs and fulfills the required course(s) needed for licensure.

It is important to note that CECs are no longer specified or limited by category. To recertify, an RPSGT must simply earn 50 approved CECs over the course of 5 years. There are no limits on the number of CECs earned by specific program or activity type.

BRPT credential holders are solely responsible for entering their continuing education credits into the BRPT Online Recertification Portal. The BRPT office is not responsible for entering continuing education credits. For a quick reminder on how to input continuing education credits and upload certificates into the online portal, go to: http://www.brpt.org/downloads/recertification/Recert_Walkthrough.pdf.
