Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology, virologic characteristics, and pathophysiologic mechanisms that underlie acute respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis, including the burden of disease across the lifespan.
- Identify the clinical risk factors, modes of transmission, and populations at greatest risk for severe RSV disease, and apply this knowledge to the recognition of high-risk patients in clinical practice.
- Differentiate the clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and severity-grading approach used to assess infants, children, and adults with suspected RSV bronchiolitis, and distinguish RSV bronchiolitis from other causes of respiratory distress.
