Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Conduct functional assessments of home care patients using standardized ADL and IADL instruments together with respiratory-specific measures.
- Predict a patient's capacity for independent living at home by applying outcome measures such as the six-minute walk test and the BODE index.
- Identify the physiological, psychological, environmental, cognitive, and social barriers to functional independence and develop interventions matched to them.
- Establish an individualized, patient-centered care plan grounded in a careful assessment of the patient's learning needs.
- Explain the home care rehabilitative and restorative process and the respiratory therapist's role within the interdisciplinary team.
